Biography
Nicolas Winding RefnĀ (Danish:Ā [ĖneĢkolÉsĀ ĖveĢnteĢÅĖŹĆ¦fnĢ©]; born 29 September 1970) is a Danish film director, screenwriter, and producer. He directed theĀ PusherĀ trilogyĀ (1996ā2005), the crime dramaĀ BronsonĀ (2008), and the adventure filmĀ Valhalla RisingĀ (2009). In 2011, he directed the action drama filmĀ DriveĀ (2011), for which he won theĀ Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director. He was also nominated for theĀ BAFTA Award for Best Direction. Refn's subsequent films were the stylistically driven action filmĀ Only God ForgivesĀ (2013) and the psychological horror filmĀ The Neon DemonĀ (2016). In 2019, he directed his first television series, Too Old to Die YoungĀ (2019), which premiered onĀ Amazon Prime.Ā After Amazon'sĀ Too Old to Die Young, Refn's next project took him toĀ Netflix and saw him returning to his native Copenhagen for the first time sinceĀ Pusher 3, which was the setting for his magical realism series,Ā Copenhagen Cowboy. In 2008, Refn co-founded theĀ Copenhagen-based production companyĀ Space Rocket Nation.
